Can Maple Syrup Fight Climate Change?

Maple groves offer us much more than maple syrup! Steve Hamel, Senior Specialist in Biodiversity Restoration at WWF-Canada, will explain during this talk how maple forests’ biodiversity is part of the solution to fight climate change. Hamel will share with us the challenges currently facing Quebec’s sugar bushes, present this important ecosystem and its inhabitants, and propose innovative solutions developed by WWF-Canada for sugar shack owners, municipalities and communities.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Steve Hamel, Senior Specialist, Biodiversity Restoration at WWF-Canada, is passionate about the forests of southern Quebec. He began his career in 1990 in British Columbia, where he carried out inventories of marbled murrelets and forest birds. Since then, he has worked on multiple inventories of birds, bats, fish and other taxonomic groups. Hamel holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UQAM.
